Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, who has recently launched an online accessory shopping destination, The Trunk Label, believes that “confidence” is the first and foremost thing a woman should wear to look appealing.

“The best accessory a woman can own is her confidence. Followed by shoes, bags, jewellery, belts, etc.,” Bipasha posted on her Twitter page.

The Trunk Label boasts a collection of shoes, bags, jewellery and belts, all curated by Bipasha herself.

President Jonathan To Meet Fmr President Obasanjofor reconciliation

President Goodluck Jonathan plans to pay back former President Olusegun Obasanjo a visit by himself for the hard-hitting letter the old man sent to him, which was leaked to the press today.

A statement by presidential spokesman Reuben Abati this evening in Abuja said that while the presidency acknowledged receiving the letter, Mr. Jonathan had directed that none of his aides or any government official should join issues with Chief Obasanjo over it.

“The President himself will, at the appropriate time, offer a full personal response to the most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him and his administration by the former Head of State,” the spokesman said.

“We however find it highly unbecoming, mischievous and provocative that a letter written by a former Head of State and respected elder statesman to President Jonathan  has been deliberately leaked to the mass media in a deplorable effort to impugn the integrity of the President and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership,” the statement said.

“While many patriotic, objective and well-meaning Nigerians have already condemned the leaked letter as self-serving, hypocritical, malicious, indecent, and very disrespectful of the highest office in the land, President Jonathan has directed that none of his aides or any government official should join issues with Chief Obasanjo over it.”

Giving 10 reasons for choosing to write the 18-page “Before It is Too Late” letter, but citing four or more previous letters that were not even acknowledged by the President, Obasanjo accused Jonathan of lying, promoting corruption and destroying Nigeria.  

“As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character,” the former President wrote. “I will want to see anyone in the Office of the Presidency of Nigeria as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”

Analysts say Mr. Jonathan’s approach aims to avoid a situation where his aides, trying to please him, would attack the former leader publicly, which would worsen the conflict and put any form of reconciliation between the two men and within the party out of reach.

 There are lots of legitimate interests there and i think its insolence and disrespect for Jonathan not to (at any point) acknowledge the letters written to him by the Former President and Head of State.

With OBJs experience at the helm of affairs in this nation is it not right he is one of the few people that our current president can turn to for advice when thing go awry? I reckon past presidents of the United States Regularly meet to discuss the best interests  of the US and sometimes help one another in sticky situations even from different parties.

Our current president seems to just enjoy 'chicken fights' than, look for new ways to move the country forward which is sad.

MANDELA TO BE HONOURED AT CLUB WORLD CUP

World football governing body FIFA will honour the late former South African president Nelson Mandela at the start of the FIFA Club World Cup taking place in Morocco from December 11, reports the SAFAwebsite.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter made the revelation while paying tribute to Mandela who passed away last Thursday and will be buried in Qunu on Sunday.

“It is with great sadness that I pay my respect to an extraordinary personality, one of the great humanists of our time and a dear friend of mine Nelson Mandela.Madiba and I shared an unwavering believe that football had the power to bring people together from all walks of life. That it is unique in its power to inspire unity, solidarity and equality among all people,” said Blatter.

The FIFA boss also reflected Mandela’s last public appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup here in South Africa.

“When Madiba was cheered by the crowd at Johannesburg’s Soccer City stadium on July 11, 2010 it was a man of the people, a man of the hearts and it was one of the most moving moments I have ever experienced in my life.

“For him the World Cup in South African was truly a dream come true. Nelson Mandela will still stay in our hearts forever. The memories of his incredible fight against oppression, his incredible charisma and his positive values will live on in us and with us.

“As a tribute to the legacy of Mandela, a Madiba moment of respect and reflection will be held in the stadium at the kickoff of every match at the Club World Cup in Morocco starting 11th December. On behalf of the global football community in January, together with the football I will pay my last respects at his final resting place in Qunu. Thank you Madiba,” said Blatter.

There are several factors that influence the fortunes of teams at the World Cup. The World Cup is the most advanced stage in world soccer and how well you fare goes a long way in deciding how the world views and rates your players.

This has a huge effect on the purchase and sales of players from these participating nations because it shows the worth and value of players.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE AT THE WORLD CUP

The first edition of the World Cup was held in 1930 and to date there have been 21 editions.

Africa first appeared in 1934 (Egypt) and from then until 1970 (Morocco) Africa was absent. The continent missed out on eight editions, with a total of 32 years absence.

Imagine the experience and opportunities Africa missed out on and the positive impact it had on the continents that participated and the negative effects it had on Africa.

How do you win a lottery if you do not play?

In a World Cup competition that has 32 participants, Africa has five representatives in contrast to Europe’s 13. That is almost three times the representation Africa has.

Obviously if, in a 32-horse race, you own 13 horses, your chances of winning are greater than if you own five horses.

In South Africa 2010, Ghana was on its way to a semifinal berth if not for unfair play by Luis Suarez to stop a goal-bound shot.

In the 70s and 80s we had often less representatives. Africa needs more slots. Thank God Fifa is effectively contemplating increasing Africa's slots to six in the near future.

HOSTING

In its almost 100 years of existence, Africa has hosted this World Cup an alarming once.

We all know the proverbial saying that "a dog is bolder at home than on the streets away from home".

Thanks to the introduction of the rotation system Africa got a chance to host its first World Cup in 2010 and I feel Africa did well globally. Had we hosted it as much as the other continents, especially Europe, we could have had brighter fortunes.

TACTICAL AND TECHNICAL DEFICIENCIES

If you really believe that tactics and technique are not the most important factors in winning the World Cup, then you are actually saying that it's useless to plan to win.

Tactics defined in one word means "planning". Failure to plan is planning to fail. A lack of high level tactics equals high level failure.

Africa has to improve in its tactical and technical abilities; otherwise success is only a dream at this level.

ORGANISATIONAL DEFICIENCIES

As the draws were coming to a close, most of the European and some Asian countries were catching the next flights to other parts of Brazil to confirm their accommodations for 2014.

Some of our African nations do not know yet for sure where their camping sites and training facilities will be.

This is worrying.

WHAT DO THE DRAWS TELL US?

Ghana can well qualify from the group of death. They have nothing to lose and have the players to achieve.

Nigeria needs to believe but not get "cocky". Iran and Bosnia are not pushovers. Who says we cannot shock Argentina?

Ivory Coast have a better group than the previous two World Cups. With a resurgent Didier Drogba leading the front a lot is possible.

Algeria and Cameroon are in a group where they can decide their own fate by their first matches. A first-match win would throw their group in disarray.

So is Africa going to win the lottery this time? I wouldn't bet on it but would welcome it like most of my readers. We have a brighter chance of getting on the podium and tasting some of the winnings come summer 2014.

We cannot do anything about the past. That's why it's called the past. The future is ours to influence. We should use the past to live the present and influence the future.

I feel like playing this lottery.

WENGER ADMITS TO FRUSTRATION

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted to feeling frustrated after his side missed out on top spot in their Champions League group and an easier draw in the knockout stages.

The English Premier League leaders were beaten 2-0 at Napoli on Wednesday which allowed Borussia Dortmund - who edged winless Olympique Marseille 2-1 - to seal top spot courtesy of a better head-to-head record after the trio all finished on 12 points.

That meant the German side will be seeded for next week's draw while runners-up Arsenal face the prospect of a last 16 clash against either Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich or big spending Paris St Germain.

"Of course to finish second makes the potential draw more difficult, in the last four or five years we have had very difficult draws, so maybe this time we will be more lucky," Wenger was quoted as saying by Arsenal.com.

"But if you look at the teams who are potentially there, at least we know we will have a difficult draw."

Arsenal have fallen at the first knockout round for the last three seasons after being drawn against Europe's finest.

Spanish giants Barcelona knocked them out in 2011 en route to winning the title while in the last edition they were dumped out at the same stage by eventual winners Bayern Munich after they faced the toughest of seeded teams.

Arsenal did win their Champions League group in the 2011-12 season and were seeded only to be paired with then Italian champions AC Milan who beat them 4-3 on aggregate.

"We have now qualified for a 14th consecutive year for the last 16 and maybe number 14 will bring us a bit of luck," a hopeful Wenger said.

Chinese Man Jumps to His Death Because His Girlfriend Won't Stop Shopping

A man is reported to have leapt to his death in a mall after a furious row with his girlfriend who insisted on continuing a five-hour shopping trip.

Tao Hsiao, 38, is said to have demanded to go home after the spree in the Xuzhou Golden Eagle mall, in Jiangsu province in the east of China, but became enraged when his partner objected.

His 23-year-old girlfriend wanted to visit one more shop to check out a shoe sale when the row erupted on Saturday, Chinese site Hexun reported.

The man leapt over the side of a balcony in a shopping mall in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province in the east of China

One eyewitness said: "He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more.

"She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument."

The shouting match ended when the man was filmed on CCTV throwing his bags on the floor and vaulting over the balcony, smashing into Christmas decorations on his way down before hitting the floor seven stories below.

The man fell seven stories and died instantly

Emergency services were quick to the scene but were too late to rescue the man, who was killed instantly.

Central European News cites a shopping spokesman as saying: "His body was removed fairly quickly. He actually landed on one of the stalls below and then fell to the floor so although the store was damaged it meant he didn't hit anybody."This is a tragic incident, but this time of year can be very stressful for many people."

Very tragic, the lady might just wear one of the shoes to his funeral...

'Fake Obama Interpreter' - I am schizophrenic, I had an attack

The sign language interpreter accused of using fake hand signals at former president Nelson Mandela’s memorial says he suffered a schizophrenic episode.

Thamsanqa Jantjies told the Cape Times that he was unsure whether it was the magnitude of what he was doing or the happiness he felt throughout the day that might have triggered the attack while on stage.

At a certain point during the proceedings Jantjies, who uses medication for schizophrenia, lost concentration, started hearing voices and began hallucinating. 

He later apologised for his actions saying he was ‘alone in a dangerous situation’ and that there was nothing he could do.

International media have zoned in on the incident which saw US president Barack Obama’s speech interpreted by a ‘fake’.

Fox News highlighted security concerns quoting White House Principal Press secretary who said that he was not aware of any security concerns near Obama.

Jacob Zuma Booed at Mandelas memorial Service

President Jacob Zuma was booed at the start of the memorial service toNelson Mandela at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday, in stark contrast to the rapturous applause received by former president Thabo Mbeki.

Crowds at the stadium both booed and cheered when Zuma entered the stadium and made his way onto the stage for the service, which started an hour later than the scheduled starting time of 11:00.

ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa started proceedings by welcoming the various dignitaries present at the stadium.

More booing was heard when Zuma's name was mentioned, while the crowds cheered loudly when the names of former presidents Kgalema Motlanthe, Thabo Mbeki and FW de Klerk were mentioned.

Zuma was seen with a stony expression, cleaning his glasses. Sapa reported he was seated between two of his wives, Gloria Bongekile Ngema and Thobeka Stacy Mabhija.

Julius Berger To Pay $32 million In US Corruption Charges For Bribing Nigerian Officials

The US Justice Department  and FBI said Tuesday the German-based international engineering company, Bilfinger SE, has agreed to pay a $32 million penalty for charges relating to violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Bilfinger's Nigerian construction subsidiary, Julius Berger PLC was charged with bribing Nigerian government officials to obtain and retain contracts related to work for the Eastern Gas Gathering System (EGGS).  A project valued at $387 million.  

The agreement follows a three count criminal charge filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas.  

According to the complaint from late 2003 through 2005, Julius Berger conspired with Willbros Group Inc., and others to make payments totaling $6 million to unnamed Nigerian government officials to obtain EGGS contracts.  Julius Berger and Willbros formed a joint venture and inflated the joint venture's bid by three percent to cover the cost of the bribe.  Part of the conspiracy involved Julius berger employees bribing Nigerian officials with cash employees sent from Germany to Nigeria.

The Justice Department and Bilfinger agreed to resolve the charges by entering a deferred prosecution agreement for a term of three years.  Bilfinger has also agreed to implement internal controls, continue cooperating with the Justice Department, and retain a corporate compliance monitor for 18 months.

Prosecutors also resolved charges with Bilfinger's collaborator on the bribe, Willbros, and three former Willbros executives or consultants who pleaded guilty, and a fourth who remains a fugitive.

200,000 People apply To Live On Planet Mars

A Dutch company says it is moving along with its plan to send four lucky Earthlings to colonize the Red Planet. The catch: They won't ever come back.

The Mars One foundation announced Tuesday that it has secured lead suppliers for an unmanned mission launching in 2018, which involves a robotic lander and a communications satellite. Lockheed Martin has been contracted to study building the lander, and Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. will develop a concept study for the satellite, Mars One said.

This first mission will demonstrate technology that would be involved in a permanent human settlement on Mars. If all goes well -- and that's still very much an "if" -- the first pioneers could land on Mars in 2025.

Enthusiasm has been growing since the project's first big announcement in April. More than 200,000 people have signed up to be prospective astronauts, Mars One CEO Bas Lansdorp said in Washington on Tuesday.
